Road work ahead signs are great for catching the attention of drivers and keeping them aware and alert in road work zones (also known as TTC zones, or Temporary Traffic Control zones). Road Construction Ahead Sign Specifications

The Road Work Ahead signs available from Houston Sign have dimensions of 30" x 30" and are made of Engineer-grade Reflective Aluminum. This allows for maximal visibility in most weather and lighting conditions. This work ahead sign has a .080" thickness and is manufactured with 5052-H38 anodized aluminum material to limit corrosion as much as possible. The sign uses 3M™ reflective sheeting that has become the industry standard for outdoor advance warning signs.

Road Work Sign Purpose

Our road work ahead warning signs are considered W20-1 signs by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). This agency specifies that the Road/Street Work sign, “serves as a general warning of obstructions or restrictions, should be located in advance of the work space or any detour, on the road where the work is taking place.” If traffic entry from a high-volume driveway or crossroad into a Temporary Traffic Control zone is possible, then additional advance warning signs should be used on the driveway or crossroad.

Use of any additional “utility, maintenance, and minor construction signing and TTC” will require coordination with the relevant authorities as not to confuse road users.

Other Road Work Ahead Sign Specs

Our road work warning signs include 3/8" pre-punched holes for mounting that are top and bottom centered. Pre-punching these holes is important to the lifetime of the sign because it limits additional abrasion when sub-standard tools are used on the reflective sheeting.

Like many other MUTD-compliant advance warning signs, the street construction ahead warning sign is a diamond shape. We use the Standard Federal radius on the four diamond corners. The sheeting is orange and is rated ASTM Type I reflectivity.
